This mug isn't made of white clay, so its brown and speckled. When glazing, I was frustrated that I wasn't allowed by the mean and close-minded teachers to cleanly paint certain parts different colors. So I took the wax –which was commonly used to keep glaze off the bottom of the piece– and smeared it on the monkey's mouth and ears. The brown glaze coated the entire thing, but kept the mouth, ears, and base tan and rough. The lesson here: have fun with your wax.
